LAW ONLY FOR LAW STUDENTS ????

Law  marks the foundation base of a society. Society consist of family and  family consists of an individual person. So, let me alter the first sentence, "Law marks the foundation base of a person".

 If it's said that law governs a society, then  it means law governs each individual living in a society. It is thus important for one to know his governing body. Ignorance of such a thing would be foolish in one's life. 

"Ignorantia juris neminem excusat", a legal maxim points out that Ignorance of law is no excuse. One cannot fight for the ignorance of his own governing object.

Thomas Jefferson, a diplomat and a  lawyer, who served as the third President of the United States rightly quoted that, " Ignorance of the law is no excuse in any country, If it were, the laws would lose their effect." 

What if laws lose their effect? The first thing that pops up thinking of such question is that the evil of the society will start to rule its kingdom over the people. People will become slave to the evil acts, bondage, thralled ,and what not.

One must understand that being aware of  law of the land is the responsibility of  every each citizen. But people have a common idea that law is only for lawyers. Framing new laws, amendments, order , decrees, judgments must be known by a person having law as his career, and for others its just news. The very object of this write up is to abolish such ideas that man has in connection with the law.

 

Is law only for Lawyers? The perfect answer would be "No". Anyone would agree with that. But will they do what they agree? The answer would be " Hmm...... iffy" . So, people have to do and live on what they agree with .

I remember an encounter with one of my old friends who said that " You lawyers have to be updated with all current affairs and all sorts of issues that are running across the country". And my answer was a simple yes. Then I asked him " What about you?  He replied with a smirking face " Ohh! I am not a law student to keep things updated like you". At once I replied," Shame on you for making such a statement... You call yourself patriotic and  remain ignorant about your own country and the changes taking place within" . 

Well, he was and is still my friend and that was a usual talk that we often do. But from the day we had that conversation, my friend started to ponder over all news, reforms, and updates t0 date that even I sometimes fail to do.

So basically, people think that law is a different profession.  "If lawyers want us to know laws then why don't they learn what we learn" -  a simple commonly thought of an individual.

 One must know what is law in real. Law is not a subject of a laboratory experiment, observation or study, or derivation of a formula. It is a long-run social experiment, observation, and study where every each individual, irrespective of what profession he is in or what course he has adopted to learn, play an important part involving himself to bring a change, where sometimes his involvement is so oblivious that even he fails to realize it. 

Laws are not just made for lawyers but the whole nation. So if it is, then the whole nation must be aware of all kinds of laws and reforms. This is not to make you learn all laws and amendments and legal activities, but to make you aware. Being aware is different from learning and knowledge. The word "aware" here refers to the level of consciousness that one has towards law. This doesn't mean urging someone to learn the law. Every citizen must be conscious of what's  going in and around our country.

It was well said by Thomas Jefferson" Educate and inform the whole mass of people, they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty". These words open our hearts to the fact that if all are well informed then there's no need to run after big people for liberty, where we already own it.

Thus, Law is not only for lawyers or advocates but for every person living in the country. Acts, Articles, sections, chapter, amendments - learning these are not the real  sense of law. Anybody can do that.  It is said that " The good of the people is the greatest law ". Law is just as simple as doing something good.
